• Sunday, Aug. 10, a job coach in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District hosts a presentation “to teach our community more about autism in hopes of providing a more welcome, understanding and encouraging environment for individuals and families touched by autism.” Joanna Keating-Velasco is also the author of two books, including “A is for Autism, F is for Friend.” Her presentation is at Placentia Presbyterian Church, 849 N. Bradford Road, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 9, Talk About Curing Autism is giving parents a beginner’s course in Defeat Autism Now! biomedical treatments, as well as a tutorial in advanced treatments for kids on the spectrum. Local doctors Bob Sears and Kurt Woeller will be presenting. TACA is a community of parents focused on treatment, advocacy and support. It’s a good place to go to find parents familiar with gluten-free/casein-free diets, to check out books from the TACA library, or to get TACA’s extensive Autism Journey Guide. • Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, the Pasadena Convention Center hosts a back-to-school autism conference, with dozens of breakout sessions and workshops, from IEP basics to yoga techniques for kids. The conference is sponsored by, among others, the Autism Research Institute and Autism Speaks. Both days start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., and registration is $105 per day (or $185 for both).
